Varsity Golf has qualified for Sectionals as a team for the first time in many years.

It’s been many years since Troy was represented with a team score in the Section 2 tournament – but that will change this year. Kolin Behan, Kayne Behan, Joey Degnan and Finn Harkin each shot five qualifying rounds, making the Flying Horses eligible for team scoring in the upcoming Sectional tournament later this fall.

To qualify for Sectionals, golfers must shoot five rounds of below eight over or better. Three can be at home courses, and the other two must be on the road.

After a five-match win streak, the team is catching fire at just the right time.

Kolin Behan was the first to qualify in the team’s win over Niskayuna on September 11. Kayne Behan was not far behind his brother, who shot his fifth qualifying round in the Sept. 14 match against Schenectady.

On September 20, Troy defeated the Brothers of CBA in a close match with a final score of 170-172. They followed that up with a strong showing at the Suburban Council Championship Tournament, where Kayne Behan and Joey Degnan each shot an 84 – which gave Degnan his fifth qualifying round and the third on the team.

On September 27, Finn Harkin qualified for Sectionals during an away match at Shaker.

And there’s more to come – each golfer is also now eligible to qualify for the state team, promising even more opportunities for success on a larger stage.

Congratulations to our Varsity Golf Team on their impressive season so far – and best of luck the rest of the way!
